San Jose to Guanacaste

(2 nights) Leave the city and travel through the fertile countryside of the CENTRAL VALLEY world-renowned for its coffee. Be informed of the history and cultivation from ‘seed to cup’ as you tour a local coffee plantation highlighting the production process and its importance to the Costa Rican economy.  Enjoy the lush tropical greenery as you arrive this afternoon in the Guanacaste region, known for its breathtaking beauty and fine sandy beaches. Guanacaste to Monteverde

(2 nights) Today travel into the MONTEVERDE CLOUD FOREST, a biological reserve where trees grow to heights of 100 feet! During a nature walk in this spectacular ecosystem you will discover the natural beauty first hand as you encounter the many incredible species of flora and fauna which thrive from the high altitude and steady supply of life-giving moisture.  Home to the world’s largest population of the endangered quetzal, celebrated for its gorgeous jewel-toned plumage, keep your eyes peeled – you may be lucky enough to spot this strikingly coloured elusive bird!  Meals Include:  Breakfast, Dinner.

Monteverde

It’s your choice!  A wealth of information awaits you today as you begin your morning learning about some of the region’s most beautiful wildlife. See an abundance of butterfly species as you visit one of the world’s largest butterfly gardens, followed by a garden-gallery of more than 100 hummingbirds with up to 14 different species.  Then, join an expert for a leisurely-paced natural history walk, study the flora and fauna of this area as you walk along a series of HANGING BRIDGES – OR – take an exhilarating ride on one of the longest canopy zip line tours in Costa Rica.  If you wish to do both, you may purchase the second as an option on tour.  This evening, extend your learning during an informative lecture on the migratory birds that flock to Costa Rica every year.  Meals Include:  Breakfast, Dinner.

Monteverde to Arenal

(2 nights) Discover the importance of conservation in Costa Rica during a visit to a tree nursery and learn about Monteverde’s reforestation efforts of indigenous trees. Travel through the beautiful mountainous landscapes of Monteverde to Arenal for breathtaking views of the volcano. Enjoy a delightful LAKE ARENAL CRUISE on the largest and most important lake in Costa Rica. Later, check in for a two-night stay at a lodge overlooking the majestic ARENAL VOLCANO which has been generating lava for the past 30 years.  Get to know the Costa Rican culture this evening as you taste your way through a cooking demonstration featuring local ingredients.  End your evening dining on the recipes of Costa Rica as a guitarist serenades you.  Meals Include: Breakfast, Dinner.

Arenal

The remote 20,000-acres of CANO NEGRO Wildlife Refuge is home to the largest viewable selection of indigenous wildlife. Explorable only by boat, embark on a guided riverboat trip in a panga (covered canoe), making frequent stops to watch and photograph the wildlife around you.  Crocodiles, river otters, sloths, river turtles, exotic birds and rare butterflies are all known to live in the area.  The Arenal Volcano area, known as a land of spas and hot springs, allows you the opportunity to attain a state of complete relaxation with an optional visit to one of the finest spas in the region. Arenal to San Jose

Visit the whimsical topiary garden in the charming town of Zarcero.  Continue to San Jose to see the treasures of the city on a panoramic tour.  See the colourful and bustling PLAZA DE CULTURA.  This evening, enjoy a FAREWELL DINNER. Meals Include:  Breakfast, Dinner.
