Edmonton to Calgary to Swift Current

An experience to be long remembered begins as you set off on your Adventure to Eastern Canada.  Depart Edmonton, travel south via Red Deer to Calgary meeting your travel companions enroute.  Cross the Alberta/Saskatchewan border to arrive in Swift Current for overnight.

Swift Current to Winnipeg

Saskatchewan passengers join the tour as you follow the Trans-Canada Highway into Manitoba, overnighting in the capital city of Winnipeg.  Upon arrival enjoy an INFORMAL WELCOME.

Winnipeg to Thunder Bay

Cross into Ontario and travel through the scenic “Lake of the Woods” area.  Make a stop to view KAKABEKA FALLS before arriving in Thunder Bay, site of the Lakehead Terminal Grain Elevators.

Thunder Bay to Sault Ste. Marie

Enjoy rugged scenery along the north shore of the great Lake Superior as you travel to the “City of Locks”. Stops along the way include the TERRY FOX MONUMENT, near where Terry’s heroic run tragically ended. Learn about the fabled Gitche Gumee while enjoying an included PICNIC LUNCH by the lakeshore. Watch for WAWA, famed as a stop-over for Canada geese, before arrival in Sault Ste Marie.

(3 nights) Your morning drive through the rolling hills and dairy region of New Brunswick brings you to MAGNETIC HILL in Moncton where cars coast uphill, or seem to!  Visit the fishing village of SHEDIAC for a photo opportunity with the WORLD’S LARGEST LOBSTER.  Cross the Northumberland Strait via CONFEDERATION BRIDGE to arrive in Prince Edward Island for a three-night stay.  This curved, 12.9km (8mile) long bridge is the longest in the world crossing ice-covered water.  Tonight experience a true “Island Tradition” as our guest at a HOSTED LOBSTER DINNER. (2 nights) Travel to Wood Islands and board the FERRY to Caribou on the Nova Scotia mainland.  Drive across the Strait of Canso, the deepest causeway in the world, onto Cape Breton Island.  Continue to the resort town of Baddeck, nestled along the shores of the Bras d’Or Lake for a two-night stay.  Prior to arriving at your hotel, visit the ALEXANDER GRAHAM BELL MUSEUM to see the many exhibits of this famous inventor who spent much of his life on Cape Breton Island. Halifax to Saint John

“Spread your tiny wings and tour away” while at the ANNE MURRAY CENTRE in Springhill, hometown of Canada’s famous “Snowbird”.  Re-enter New Brunswick and stop in HOPEWELL CAPE, the location of the highest tides in the world.  View the Flower Pot Rocks carved by the Fundy tides.  These peculiar formations are forested islands at high tide and resemble flowerpots at low tide.  Travel through FUNDY NATIONAL PARK and arrive in Canada’s Loyalist City, Saint John. Witness the REVERSING RAPIDS where the Bay of Fundy’s highest tides pour, push and rise into the Saint John River to reverse its direction before you head to your hotel.

Leaving the Maritime Provinces today, retrace your steps along the Saint John River into Quebec.  Marvel at the change in fall colours since making your way east.  Heading upriver follow the highway along the St. Lawrence until stopping for overnight near the bridges to Quebec City.

Following the south shore route through Quebec, bypass Montreal to return to Ontario.  Your overnight will be in the suburban town of Whitby, home during World War II to the top-secret Camp X, a British/Canadian spy training facility rumoured to have trained famous authors Roald Dahl and Ian Fleming.

Taking the bypass around busy Toronto, head to the Niagara Peninsula area known for its rich farmlands.
