(2 Nights) Keep your camera close at hand as you travel the Viking Trail to Gros Morne National Park & UNESCO World Heritage Site; a delightful coastal ‘run’ that separates the Appalachian Mountains from the brilliant waters of the Strait of Bell Isle.  Visit the National Historic Site at PORT AU CHOIX, which interprets the history and lifestyle of the Maritime Archaic people who lived here over 3000 years ago.  Continue to Plum Point where you join your travel companions this evening for an included DINNER and overnight.

Plum Point

Today travel the coastline to St. Anthony to visit the home of the famous medical missionary, SIR WILFRED GRENFELL.  The highlight of this day is our visit to the UNESCO World Heritage site at L’Anse aux Meadows, home of Lief the Lucky and the Viking people who settled this area as early as the year 1000 A.D.

Plum Point to Labrador

Keep a sharp eye out for whales and other marine mammals during a quick FERRY ride across the Straits of Belle Isle to the shores of Labrador.  Here we visit the recently discovered RED BAY BASQUES WHALING STATION founded by the Basques in the early 1500’s,. Later visit the tallest lighthouse in the province at L’Anse Amour.

Labrador to Rocky Harbour/Cow Head

Rocky Harbour/Cow Head

This morning take a boat tour across beautiful Bonne Bay to Woody Point to spend time in Gros Morne National Park UNESCO World Heritage Site. Visit the new Discovery Centre and view the famous Tableland Mountains.  It is this area that earned the park its UNESCO World Heritage status and its nickname as the ‘Galapagos of Plate Tectonics’.

Rocky Harbour/Cow Head to Gander

(2 Nights) Bid farewell to the west coast take an easterly trek, to a new geological frontier. A perfect harbor provides a beautiful backdrop for an eventful morning of whale interpretation and brilliant art exhibits. This afternoon commemorates the survivors of the 9/11 Tragedy and the many acts of kindness extended when we welcomed the ‘Come From Away’ guests into the homes and communities surrounding Gander; the epicenter of the hit Broadway musical.

Gander to Twillingate and Return to Gander

Today travel the famous “Road to the Isles”, crossing and traveling through “Tickles and Runs” to spend time on beautiful Twillingate Island. This is one of Newfoundland’s oldest and most interesting fishing communities. We visit the lighthouse at Crow Head, the Auk Island Winery for a sample of their wares, and the Beothuck Centre in Boyd’s Cove to learn about the indigenous groups that once occupied Newfoundland.

Gander to Salvage and Terra Nova National Park to Clarenville

This morning travel to the historic fishing community of SALVAGE on the Eastport Peninsula.  Enjoy a walk through the town and, hopefully, an opportunity to chat with some of the locals.  Continue to TERRA NOVA NATIONAL PARK to view the vistas of Newman Sound and visit the park’s MARINE INTERPRETATION CENTRE. Here diccover the variety of marine life found in the sounds and learn about this ecologically diverse area.

Clarenville to Trinity and Bonavista, Return to Clarenville

This morning travel to the historic village of Trinity, one of the oldest communities in North America, the gem of the Island. Continue to CAPE BONAVISTA for a chance to walk the cliffs and enjoy the spectacular coastal scenery.  This afternoon explore BONAVISTA, John Cabot’s historic landfall in 1497.  Visit the RYAN PREMISES NATIONAL HISTORIC SITE to learn about inshore fishing techniques that have allowed this town to thrive for hundreds of years.

Clarenville to Bay Bulls, Cape Spear and St John’s

Today, travel to the Avalon Peninsula to the town of Bay Bulls, where you will embark on a memorable BOAT TOUR to the WITLESS BAY ECOLOGICAL RESERVE, weather permitting. View thousands of Atlantic Puffins, Murres and other seabirds that nest here in the summer. Witless Bay is also home to many Humpback, Minke, and Fin whales in the summer months so whale sightings are a definite possibility.  This afternoon visit CAPE SPEAR NATIONAL HISTORIC SITE, the most easterly point of land in North America before heading into St. John’s, the capital of Newfoundland and Labrador.

St. John’s

This morning, enjoy a GUIDED CITY TOUR of historic St. John’s, one of North America’s oldest settlements.  Visit CABOT TOWER and SIGNAL HILL, where sweeping views overlook the famous habour entrance known as the “Narrows”. Admire the architecture of old St. John’s including its famous “Jelly Bean Houses.” This afternoon is free for you to explore at your own pace.  This evening we share our farewell dinner.
