Okanagan Desert, Lakes & Vineyards

Discover Canada’s only desert on this relaxing new tour through the southern Okanagan Valley.  Fall is a great time to visit as the wine harvests are happening, the weather is a little cooler, and the crowds are fewer.  Enjoy two nights in the beach town of Osoyoos, two nights in scenic Kelowna, an orchard tour and tastings of some of Canada’s finest wines. Travel through the Crowsnest Pass and Creston Valley.  Ferry across Kootenay Lake, overnight in Nelson with a nostalgic ride on Historic Streetcar #23.  Includes overnight stops in Cranbrook and Golden.

Edmonton to Calgary to Fort MacLeod To Cranbrook

Saturday. Your scenic “Okanagan South” tour begins as you are welcomed aboard your deluxe coach in Edmonton.  Travel south via Red Deer to Calgary meeting additional travel companions enroute.  Proceed through the Crowsnest Pass, one of the major coal-producing areas in the nation after the turn of the century.  See Leitch Collieries, the Roadside Chapel, Frank Slide, and Fernie along the route.  Continue to Cranbrook for overnight at St. Eugene Golf Resort & Casino. Join your fellow travellers for a GET ACQUAINTED WELCOME DINNER.

 Cranbrook to Nelson

SundayEnjoy a scenic drive through the fertile Creston Valley where the main industry is fruit growing.  Pass by the Glass House, built with 500,000 square-shaped embalming fluid bottles, weighing 250 tons.  Follow the picturesque route along the Kootenay Valley to Kootenay Bay.  Take the longest free FERRY RIDE in North America to Balfour, then weave along the north shore of the west arm of Kootenay Lake.  Head south to Nelson to spend the night at the Best Western Plus Baker Street Inn.

Nelson to Osoyoos

(2 nights) Monday. This morning, discover a town with historic storybook charm and stunning geography as you board STREETCAR #23 for a nostalgic ride along the lake on a fully restored electric tramway.  Continue through Castlegar, Christina Lake, and Grand Forks on your way to the beach town of Osoyoos.  Known for having a desert-like environment and the warmest lake in the country, this charming town has earned the motto “Canada’s Warmest Welcome.”  Overnight at Best Western Plus Osoyoos Hotel.

Tuesday. Today we explore natural wonders, First Nations history, culture and vineyards on a driving tour that includes a tasting experience at NK’MIP CELLARS (pronounced in-ka-meep), North America’s first Indigenous-owned winery.  A free afternoon leaves time for you to relax at the hotel or roam on your own.

Osoyoos to Kelowna

(2 nights) Wednesday. Enjoy breathtaking vineyard views and world class wine tasting as you travel north through Oliver, Okanagan Falls and Penticton.  Arrive in Kelowna, located on the shores of Okanagan Lake.  Your home for the next two nights is the Fairfield Inn, conveniently located near restaurants and shops.

Kelowna

Thursday. A morning driving tour of downtown Kelowna will acquaint you with the area.  Then venture across the lake for a PIZZA LUNCH and WINE TASTING at the first beachfront winery in North America, FRIND ESTATE WINERY.  Sample smooth wines created on this historic property, once the home of former BC Premier, Bill Bennett.  Bill’s father, W.A.C. Bennett, was the longest serving BC Premier from 1952 to 1973 and the president of the Okanagan’s first winery, “Calona Wines”.

Kelowna to Golden

Friday. Say goodbye to the natural beauty of Kelowna and travel a short distance to Vernon for a guided ORCHARD TOUR on board Johnny Popper Apple Train, with its distinctive exhaust sound.  Explore the grounds and taste an included piece of freshly baked APPLE PIE with ice cream and a beverage.  There is plenty of storage space under your motorcoach for those extra purchases!  Wind your way past rugged peaks, over the majestic ROGERS PASS, and onward to Golden for your last evening together at the BW Mountainview Inn.  Share favourite tour memories with your fellow travellers at a HOSTED FAREWELL DINNER.

Golden to Calgary to Edmonton

Saturday. Travel through the renowned Yoho and Banff National Parks.  As you head east, the landscape gradually levels into gentle foothills and open ranch country.  Arrive mid-afternoon in Calgary and conclude your journey in Edmonton.
